Sonia Delaunay was a pioneer of early abstraction, deeply influenced by the laws of ‘simultaneous contrasts’. Her work is lyrical and harmonious, with brightly coloured arabesques, concentric circles, triangles, and rectangles composed in her paintings and prints. Delaunay wanted to symbolise modernity and the experiences of simultaneity that urban life provides.
