Resplendence

13 September - 17 October 2023

Dellasposa Gallery presents Resplendence, an exhibition of works by artists Rob Munday, Chris Levine and Christian Furr that reflect on the reign of the HM Queen Elizabeth II on the first anniversary of her passing.

Queen Elizabeth II sat for more than a thousand portraits throughout her seventy-year reign, making her one of the most painted women in history. Represented in almost every conceivable medium, iconic images of The Queen influenced art history by redefining modern royal portraiture, fostering a sense of intimacy between the monarch and the public in sharing a cultural legacy and supporting the arts in contemporary culture.

The artist's contributions to the cultural legacy of royal portraiture, as defined by Queen Elizabeth II, hold a remarkable place in the story of these artists, conveying the late Queen's essential qualities – a symbol of great duty and devotion to serving the people.

Rob Munday's work is widely recognised for advancing portraiture in contemporary culture today through his groundbreaking achievements in photographic holography. The portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, known as Equanimity, was conducted as a creative collaboration between Chris Levine and Rob Munday. Chris Levine is a contemporary artist with a multi-disciplinary approach that harnesses diverse technology to reveal how light is fundamental to human experience.

Christian Furr displays a selection of signed limited edition Jouissance Crowns, an icon representing the monarch's sovereignty, duty, and responsibility to serve the people. Alongside these works, the large illustrious Jouissance – How My Heart Sings reveals the sense of celebration in a contemporary abstract style with a diamond dust finish.

A commemorative exhibition, Resplendence invites viewers to contemplate the enigma of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, whose presence was constant in a changing world.
