Turner Prize winner Anish Kapoor creates elegant works of art that immerse the viewer in new ways. As a sculptor specialising in installation art and conceptual art, he first rose to prominence in the 1980s with biomorphic sculptures in limestone and other natural materials. Throughout his practice, Kapoor has explored the theme of 'the void' in sculptural works that are rich in pigment, reflective, and often playing with our perception and sense of space. His exploration of space is about the excavation of meaning – psychological, mythological or spiritual – beyond purely formal or material concerns. For Kapoor, repetition fulfils a meditative role; an idea is part of a continuum, with each new creation part of a whole that traverses across a variety of mediums.
