Prismatic Head exemplifies the artist’s concept of ‘psychological cubism,’ which, as Condo explains, involves painting “all four sides of human nature” simultaneously. While Picasso fragmented objects within physical space, Condo instead dissects the inner self, integrating emotions such as rage, joy, grief, and elation into a unified, dynamic portrait. Created in 2024, this work represents a pinnacle of his recent practice, synthesising influences from Old Masters such as Velázquez and Rembrandt with a distinctly American, Pop-inspired approach.
