Billy Childish captures a young swimmer becoming immersed in swirling waters with bold, intuitive expression. Here, the artist explores the human connection with nature, drawing from the artistic traditions of swimmers and landscapes.

'Wading Out' is a visual metaphor that embodies both vulnerability and potential, capturing the human experience of overcoming uncertainty with hope and resilience. At once, it represents a crossing the threshold between different states of being, entering a liminal space between certainty and uncertainty, and venturing forth into the unknown.

Created during his exhibition 'Where the black water slid,' this artwork embodies Childish's philosophy of capturing essential human experiences. His approach connects to Expressionist painters like Van Gogh and Munch while maintaining a distinctive contemporary edge. The swimmer represents both physical movement and spiritual communion with the natural environment.
