This orange-reds and yellow composition represents one of Picasso's dearest subjects, the bullfighting, a theme which inspired many of his creations. The artwork describes the relationship between the picador, the bull and the crowd in a colourful and dymanic way.

Between 1958 and 1961 Picasso made many linocuts that were first issued in signed editions of 50 by Galerie Louise Leiris. In 1962, in collaboration with Picasso and Galerie Louise Leiris, new linoleum plates were made at 42% of the original size, and it was from these that these Linocuts were produced.
