A vibrant still life from Bailey’s mature period, this work juxtaposes the' technical precision and geometry of poppy seed heads against a strikingly minimalist setting. With symbolic depth, the super-realism of detail, achieved through large-format techniques, evokes Dutch Golden Age Vanitas painting, transposed into a photographic medium. The present work is a radical departure from portraiture, for which Bailey is so well known, demonstrating the artist's range and versatility by engaging with traditional themes from art history.
