This striking work emerges from Bailey’s’ Chasing Rainbows’ series, which documented Marie Helvin during their creative and personal partnership in the mid-1970s. Many of his works during this period have a palpable sense of intimacy and wit, with his photography turning Bailey’s evolution toward a more narrative, conceptually rich approach. The large-format presentation emphasises Bailey’s exceptional detail and tonal range.

The present work demonstrates what writer and curator Robin Muir described as Bailey’s work: the ‘tableaux, probably meticulously choreographed, betray a spontaneity and lightness of touch.’
