The Emotions is a suite of nine prints by Damien Hirst, derived from his original Jacaranda paintings. Evoking the enveloping yet ephemeral beauty of the natural world, the series represents a further development of the artist’s acclaimed Cherry Blossoms.
The Jacaranda paintings were inspired by the 2024 presentation of Hirst’s Cherry Blossoms at Museo Jumex in Mexico City. Displayed in galleries with expansive glazed walls, the paintings entered into a striking visual dialogue with the jacaranda trees outside, whose blossoms appeared to frame and extend the exhibition into the surrounding landscape.
Across the nine prints, sinuous branches are laden with densely worked blossoms in a vivid spectrum of colour. Through layered surfaces and contrasting textures, Hirst sets passages of pointillist paintwork against repeated leaf-shaped impressions, creating compositions that appear at once tactile, animated and immersive.
