The exhibition recounts the genesis of the modern and contemporary British art scene by exploring the history and relationships cultivated by the artists, writers, musicians, and bohemians who frequented the notorious The Colony Room in Soho, London. The exceptional works of art on display reflect a poignant and diverse range of voices in post-war Britain.
Tales from the Colony Room: Art and Bohemia presents works by Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach, Jankel Adler, Jacob Epstein, R. B. Kitaj, Eduardo Paolozzi, Patrick Caulfield, Michael Clark, Maggi Hambling, Sarah Lucas, Daniel Chadwick, Keith Coventry, Mat Collishaw, Cecily Brown, Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Gary Hume, Nick Reynolds, and photographers Daniel Farson, Bruce Bernard, Michael Woods, David Bailey, among many more.
The exhibition is accompanied by the official release of the book, Tales from the Colony: Soho’s Last Bohemia, by artist Darren Coffield.
