The Spot Paintings and prints are among Damien Hirst’s most widely recognised and influential series of works. Conceived as a conceptually endless series over thirty years ago, they explore the idea of a mechanical painter. This etching from 2004 is titled Tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis. It forms part of the Pharmaceutical sub-series of the Spots, in which different coloured dots are arranged according to a rigid grid structure, with no two colours repeating in a single work.
